In this video the motor is connected for 220 volts and is supplied with around 90 volts from a Variac, such that I can simply plug it in and enjoy it without having to connect it to a 240 volt socket. It will actually accelerate and run on a 15 ampere power strip without tripping it's breaker. I have run it on 240 volts, and when first thrown across the line you can feel it in the concrete floor. Once up to speed, the magnetic song it sings is also very nice on full voltage, though it makes a similar sound as heard in this video just from the slots in the iron passing one another- the magnetic sound on full voltage is just louder. The motor next to it is a 1/4 hp, of the same make, type and vintage. It even sounds the same, but MUCH quieter. This is just what the motor looked like when I acquired it around a year ago. It appears to be totally original, inside and out, other than it's paint. As far as I know, they were all supplied eggshell black. In it's most recent former life it was driving a ten hp Kellogg American two cylinder, two stage air compressor, which I also have. Lennox Fan Motor on Outside AC Unit Reverses Itself

Keep in mind: Correct fan direction is Counter-clockwise to blow air out the top! Fan motor actually reverses itself when compressor kicks in. When it was turned on first time initially, the fan and compressor both came on at the same time. I shut it off after a brief period, then turned it back on shortly. Mystery #1: In most compressor, the entire unit will not come on until the pressure inside the compressor is released to prevent a back-up. The fan in this unit came on independently (this time spinning the correct direction). Mystery #2: As soon as the compressor came on, the fan reversed itself. What gives? The unit cools fine, thermostat is working properly. I do not know if the fan is OEM (usually designed to go in only 1 direction) or aftermarket (universal type that spins both ways). Cap has been replaced also.

Evinrude Aquanaut Diving Compressor

Made form 1966 to 1970 by OMC, who also made the Johnson Air Buoy and Lawn-Boy lawn mowers. This unit is in very good condition but is missing the 20 ft vinyl hoses and the diving masks. It supports two divers from a 2-cylinder compressor. The compressor unit floats on the water in a yellow vinyl innertube, just visible in the background. Air from the compressor is used to inflate it on location. Divers were limited to 20 ft depths due to the hose length, which reduces the health risks an untrained diver is not familiar with. The 2-stroke engine on this unit is very similar to the engine on Lawn-Boy mowers of the era, making replacement engine parts not too difficult to find. I have the owners and service manual for this unit too.

Train horn air set up

First off sorry about such a long video, I wanted to get as much info as I could into it. If anyone watching has any further questions, comment or send me a message and I'll be glad to help. That being said, a couple of extra things: 1) OBEY THE LAW!!!! If you use the info in this video to mount a horn on your car, you do so at your own risk. I cannot and will not be held responsible for the misuse of any information in this video. 2) Valves. Though it is the best, a gram white valve isn't necessary. You can run a horn off a ball valve or (god forbid) a solenoid. The GW is just more fun and accurate. 3) Hoses. The red hose you see is a Goodyear 200 PSI rated hose that I bought by the foot at a hardware store. If you do go this route and use garden hose connectors, I would suggest gettign 3/4 inch hose. Reason being is that the 3/4" hose barbs are 1/2" internal, where as the 1/2" hose barbs on that red hose are 1/4" inside, hence why it's the tank to tank hose. In a horn air set up, the less restrictions the better! The yellow hose is a self coiling 1/2" air hose that was special ordered. 4) Pressure! I mentioned this in the video, but didn't explain. Locomotives operate with 140 PSI in the main reservoir. All horns designed for railroad service are rated to at least this, most are rated to 150. For hobby use though, I strongly recommend 90-100, never over 120. Over 100, the horn(s) don't sound any louder, but they do sound a lot harsher. Just listen to any BNSF dash 9 ...
