STEAM ENGINE FROM AN AIR COMPRESSOR Solar Engine for Future Tests

www.greenpowerscience.com This is the engine that was converted from an old special tilt piston air compressor. This is the exact same principal from a certain type of "Air Hogs" plane engine. In the opener the engine was running at 35-50 psi and the second start was around 75-80 psi. Top RPMS so far is 1700 at 110 PSI. The timing still needs some work. Solenoid Valves with a Reed Switch and a Magnet are great ways of testing air/steam engines to perfect the timing. A slide valve will eventually be needed as the solenoid valve is rated at 100000 - 1000000 cycles. This engine would wear it out in a day. The flywheel is wafer board (simple easy but not balanced or perfected). Not shown, top voltage from a permanent magnet motor (tread mill) 21 volts, top load 75 watts. The belt started slipping and the timing was hard to get back to perfect for the load. This engine will run 4 minutes on a full 10 gallon tank of air. The last minute is slow around 500 rpms to 50 rpms.

Homemade Steam Engine

*UPDATE* The old links don't seem to work. However, the book the plans came from is called "The boys' book of engines, motors & turbines" by Alfred Powell Morgan. You might be able to check it out from your library (or they may be able to order it for you). I apologize for this inconvenience. ---- Don't forget to check out my Lego Steam Engine (with plans in the description) www.youtube.com ---- I got plans from here: www.backyardmetalcasting.com home.comcast.net ---- Made from plumbing parts and some other stuff, I used parts anyone could find at Home Depot to make this, and it works. However, I did use my vertical mill to help form the piston and various other parts. It would be a bit harder with hand tools. --- Any questions should be directed at my other channel, JPRucks. Messages will still reach me at this account, but my response will be slower.

Steam engine made out of Air Compressor

We took out a small air compressor from a dead battery pack. put a valve into pipe that goes to pressue gauge so when cylinder reaches to top, pushes pin of the valve and opens for pressured air coming from other pipe... crank moves the copper wire and pushes the valve, to deff. the steam which was originally used by compressor to intake the air... Basically you need a valve to send pressured steam when cylinder reaches to top, use the excisting valve to relase the air while cylinder is moving up. Then you need a flywheel to continue that movement. We used empty propane tank to make steam. But we changed its security valve's spring and now it can reach max 25 psi. If you dont change it it holds way over 100 psi. it is very risky if you dont. We drilled and make it possible to put a water inside. 10psi is enough to run that engine. Camp fire or gasifier wood stove will be boiling that tank to run the steam engine.

7 horse economy hit miss engine

This is a 7 horse Economy engine that I bought for my two kids. I am going to belt it to a air compressor and run my whistles off it.

Lego Pneumatics: 2-Cylinder Engine

This is a two cylinder Lego Pneumatic Engine (LPE) I put together as I had leftover technic beams and pneumatic components after building other projects. The engine provides a good array of power, I would just perfer it run smooth. For now the only item the engine powers is a 9V Technic motor to act as a generator for a lamp. I intend on building the 3-speed manual transmission from nxtprograms.com and using this to power it instead of an nxt motor. I make use of an Iwata Sprint Jet air compressor that is used for airbrushes. I can get up to 125 psi with it but the engine will run at 60 psi max as it uses the air. The building instructions for this engine plus several other engine variants including a 6-cylinder radial engine can be found here: www.fifth-r.com

Turbine Engine: full power ... LOUD!

This is more film of the GE LM1500 gas turbine engine running at the S&S Turbines open-air test cell. All the noise in the beginning is made by the start cart, which is a 90Hp turbine engine. Even when you hear the LM1500 start to wind up, it's not even running until you see the heat waves coming out the back of it. This happens when the operator opens the fuel valve at around 2000 rpm. In the middle of the video, when the noise in an unbearable shriek, the engine is turning just over 7000 rpm, and is blowing hot air out the jetpipe to the tune of a little more than 15 thousand horsepower. The air flow through the engine at full power is about 150 pounds per second. In the view of the control room screen, the numbers are as follows from left to right along the top of the screen: EGT or exhaust gas temperature in degrees Celsius, measured just after the last stage of the turbine, which is just behind the second green steel frame holding the engine. Next is RPM. This engine has basically one rotating shaft, and you can just barely see the 1st stage compressor blades moving on shutdown. Engine RPM is of this common shaft, upon which all compressor and turbine stages are mounted. 5000 rpm is idle speed for this engine. Last, on the right, is lube oil pressure, in pounds per square inch. These engines have roller bearings, not journal bearings like a car engine, so oil pressure is mainly an indication of oil flow. A lot of flow is needed, because the oil is used as a coolant ...
